Adam George Bires, Sept. 12, 1981 – Sept. 23, 2019

Adam Bires left this world on Monday, Sept. 23, 11 days after his 38th birthday.

His young body had become a source of chronic pain, while his multiple personality disorder scrambled his thoughts and communication, resulting in loud verbal outbursts that dominated his life and reputation. His cause of death is yet to be determined.

But that isn’t who he was. Adam was handsome, intelligent and kind. He was well-educated and enjoyed reading the classics. Some of his favorite authors included J.D. Salinger, Jack Kerouac, Edgar Allan Poe, Kurt Vonnegut, and of course, William Shakespeare. He was an accomplished thespian, with a strong singing voice. Residents of Moab may have seen him perform at a couple of plays, supporting charitable “Quick Draw” events, or heard his singing voice when he was a karaoke DJ at Club Rio.

He leaves behind his grandparents, Anna Bires and Guy Blackburn; his parents, David (Deborah) Bires and Michele Blackburn; his godparents, Uncle Dan (Clarissa) Bires and Aunt Lisa Blackburn; his siblings, Macey Bires and Neil (Barbara) Metcalf; and his nephews, Emmet and Marcus Metcalf. He had additional aunts, uncles and many cousins both in Moab and Houston, Texas.

Adam George Bires was the namesake of his beloved grandfather, George Bires, who predeceased him in 2002. Adam’s remains will be interred in his birthplace of Houston, next to his maternal grandmother, Juanita Robertson Blackburn.

Any and all friends and community members are invited to join a local rendition of a traditional New Orleans Second Line parade, featuring members of the Fiery Furnace Marching Band. “Second line” is a style of traditional dance, in which participants walk or strut (sometimes twirling a parasol or handkerchief in the air), as they follow the first line of musicians and immediate family. This “Adam-style” celebration will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 22nd at 5:30 p.m., starting at 71 South 400 East, and proceeding up Center Street to Club Rio. Music by Meander Cat will follow.

Condolences may be sent to the family at www.SpanishValleyMortuary.com.
