Community asked to weigh in on management of Mill Creek

In a June 3 press release, the Mill Creek Community Collaborative (MCCC) said it wants to understand what Moab residents and visitors value most about Mill Creek and have created a survey to help gather this information.

The Mill Creek Canyon Community Survey is now open and can be accessed at bit.ly/MillCreekSurvey2019.

According to the MCCC, the survey seeks information about how people use the canyon and what values are most important to them. The survey also asks for people to voice their concerns about recreational use at Mill Creek, and is giving the community a way to express ideas or solutions related to management issues, such as access, trash, parking and impact to residents who live nearby.

The information gathered will be used to develop new management recommendations to improve Mill Creek Canyon.

The MCCC said it’s a group of Moab locals, agency representatives and canyon users working collaboratively to develop recommendations to address impacts from the increasing visitation and recreational use in Mill Creek Canyon.

The member includes representatives from the City of Moab, Grand County, Bureau of Land Management (BLM), School and Institutional Trusts Lands Administration (SITLA), Moab Valley Fire Protection District, Grand County Search and Rescue, Moab Solutions, Rim to Rim Restoration, and other groups, stakeholders and individuals with an interest in Mill Creek.

The vision of the MCCC is to collaboratively address impacts from increasing recreational use in Mill Creek Canyon by providing access to a quality experience for canyon visitors in a way that protects the natural and cultural resources of Moab’s backyard and addresses impacts to nearby neighborhoods, the press release said.

There will be future opportunities for the public to learn the results of the survey and to provide feedback on Mill Creek.

Information will be updated on the MCCC website (bit.ly/MillCreekCC) and on the MCCC Facebook page.
